Climber simulator with an attempt at realism.

The game is announced for platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.

PLOT

Practically absent. From time to time we are given historical information.

GAMEPLAY

The gameplay is a climber simulator.

There are six eight-thousanders, one of which is training.

The most important stage is the preparation for the expedition.

We choose a mountain, then a contract is concluded with a conditional sponsor who will give money for the trip. I liked the detailed description of the route as well as the list of required items of equipment.

When we were given minted coins, we spend them at a local store. Naturally, the first thing we do is buy the must-haves from the list. You can take something beyond that, but keep in mind that the hero is limited in the carry weight.

In the presence of a lot of useful - food, clothing, and a variety of useful climbing equipment. You can even stock up on things for spending the night and moving in the dark.

When the equipment is purchased, we collect the backpack. This is a matter that requires diligence. You need to try to balance the distribution of weight. This parameter is important in determining the success/failure of various actions.

We put on our clothes and go. We disembark at the base camp, which is the starting point.

The mechanics of the game are extremely interesting and varied. Even the simplest movements are fraught with danger. For example, walk on a slightly inclined surface. You can slip and fall badly.

The character has a lot of dynamically changing parameters (hunger, freezing degree, psychological state, and so on). They influence the success or failure of most actions. Therefore, only rushing forward is not always possible and reasonable. It is quite possible to bring the hero to exhaustion and then you can’t climb anywhere.

The process is accompanied by convenient, timely training tips.

I will try to describe in general terms the capabilities of the hero:

- Moving. It's more difficult than it looks. It is necessary to scan (Alt button) the terrain and choose the best route. A certain grid is formed, by the color of the dots of which you can find out the degree of risk of a particular area. Green - safe, yellow - risky, red - very risky, black - impossible.

- Climbing up the hill. Usually, the hero clings to ledges and pulls himself up there. The action seemed safe, although it looks difficult.

- Organization of various insurances. Fasteners for stone, ice, and snow differ. Some sections can only be overcome in this way.

- Climbing up sheer stone walls. Kind of a mini-game. The danger seemed low.

- Climbing ice sheer walls. Also a mini-game, only dynamic. If you tap the points with an ice ax, then the degree of their risk is reduced. But here it is necessary to act smartly, otherwise, the hero will get tired and fall down.

- Climbing stairs through gaps/cracks. There is also a mini-game with balancing while moving. If you move carefully, then there is practically no difficulty.

For passing any level, you are rewarded with money and prestige points. This allows you to stock up on better equipment in the future. It is possible to go through locations several times in order to farm or improve the time to overcome the route.

GALLOPING IN EUROPE

When a hero falls or slides, especially with critical possible consequences, they are allowed to play a QTE. If you manage to pass it successfully, then the consequences can be avoided.

Going down the mountain is much more difficult than climbing it. We're just going up here.

It's very rare to find any useful items to pick up. Who laid them out there is not specified, but they are.

Sometimes during the passage, we find interesting historical references.

Consider the pros and cons of the game, and sum up.

PROS:

+ Acceptable graphics.

+ Good music and sound accompaniment.

+ The general atmosphere of mountain climbing.

+ A wide variety of useful equipment.

+ A lot of hero parameters that you need to monitor and respond to their changes.

+ Risk system for almost all actions.

+ A decent variety of obstacles along the way that are related to mini-games.

+ Russian text language. The localization quality is acceptable. Sometimes clumsy, but in general - everything is clear.

MINUSES:

- Sometimes, in my opinion, the terrain is displayed incorrectly. For example, a normal section once ran through black dots and it is not clear where this run could be interrupted. We need to dynamically and correctly change the degree of riskiness of points depending on our actions. Sometimes it doesn't work.

CONCLUSIONS

An unusual game of its kind. More or less a detailed climber simulator. Equipment weight, risk tests.

PS: Probably did not disclose all aspects, could miss something. I will be glad to supplement/correct the review or answer questions in the course of communication in the comments.

All good games!
